Predestined. Some of us have heard or read this word in the Scriptures before but may not full grasp what it means. Romans 9: 28 – 30 says “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.” (See also Ephesians 1: 5)
There are times things happen to us for which we never bargained. We may also be disappointed or lacking in joy each day we are in a profession that does not bring us satisfaction, and then we realize that there has to be more than where we are. There may be people who are unsaved, or are atheists, or lawmakers determined to put things in place to stop the growth of Christianity. But deep within, they realize that something isn’t adding up. You were with Christ from before the foundation of the earth, which means that He wants us to be in His image, walk righteous, holy – believing in the things He believes.
“…For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren…” This tells us that before we were born into this world, we were with Him, made to be conformed to HIS image. We must align to our true identity – who we were before we were born here. That is why the fight is so great. Only through salvation a spiritual birth – will our eyes be opened so that we can begin walking into what we were predestined to be.
This establishes the fact that God predestined us based on His foreknowledge of us. The word predestined comes from the merging of two Greek words – “prohorizo”. “Pro” means “in front” in a spatial sense or “before” in a temporal sense. “Horizo” means “to determine or ordain” or “to appoint.”
You may be in a common-law relationship, being poorly treated; but you are royalty. You may be a janitor, but you were predestined to be wealthier than Bill Gates; or you might have made the mistake of marrying the wrong person. You may be predestined to be a prophet, but you are in the wrong profession. Life and purpose were decided before physical birth, that is why God hates abortion.
Our cemeteries are filled with the remains of people with unfulfilled purpose. Why do you believe people are so angry when it comes on to injustice? It may be because God has predestined them to be a lawyer, a judge, or a civil rights leader. What about those who hate to see people sick? Maybe they were pre-destined to be a doctor, nurse or other health professional, or maybe they have the gift of healing and don’t yet know it. There are those who hate to see people poor or lacking basic necessities of life. They may be pre-destined to be own and operate large humanitarian centers to help the poor.
The Spirit of Prophecy and Word of Knowledge are tools God uses to reveal one’s pre-destined purpose. I have seen persons who saw themselves as just another average Joe and when the Lord revealed their purpose/calling they didn’t embrace it initially. But the moment they did everything fell into place. I met a lawyer, but the Lord told him “you are the Mayor.” He didn’t fully embrace it at first, but when he did and ran for office in less than a year, he became the mayor.
We are pre-destined for greatness with all the pneumatikos blessings (Ephesians 1: 1 – 6), that is everything we needed from the foundation of the earth.
1 Corinthians 2: 9 reminds us, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
There are many within the society that are fighting for power, but the question is, are you predestined for that position you are pursuing?
